A new survey has shown that 38% of Irish employers will require their employees to spend more time in the office in 2024.

The study from recruitment consultants Hays Ireland also shows that 58% of employers expect hybrid working arrangements to stay the same this year.

The research found that, currently, 44% of employees work fully from the office while 41% follow a hybrid model.

The analysis showed that 61% of workers said they would not be prepared to accept a lower salary for a role that was fully remote.

Almost half of employees said their working hours, including flexible working, would ideally change in order to improve their work-life balance.

Meanwhile, 54% of employees said they would consider a job in the future that did not offer hybrid working.

Employers vary in their expectations of hybrid working, with 27% mandating three days of physical presence in the office, 20% requiring a minimum of two days in the office, and 23% offering full flexibility in choosing remote or office work.

“As employees’ preferences shift, we see employers adapting their approaches to workplace setups,” said Maureen Lynch, Managing Director at Hays Ireland.

“The report emphasises the significance of a healthy work-life balance and fostering in-person collaboration within teams,” Ms Lynch said.

The survey was published as part of the Hays Ireland Salary & Recruiting Trends Guide 2024 and received over 1,450 responses from employers and professionals across Ireland between August and September 2023.
