Workshop Overview

This interactive workshop will take place via Zoom on April 21st  2026 from 7pm – 9pm.

Effective governance is the cornerstone of sustainable success for non-profit organisations and charities, ensuring that they maintain the trust of stakeholders, comply with legal requirements, and continue to serve their communities with integrity. This comprehensive workshop, ‘Board Roles and Responsibilities’, is designed to equip voluntary board members with the essential skills and practical knowledge necessary for good governance. The course delves into key aspects such as the various levels of corporate governance, the overarching responsibilities and legal duties of board members, and the specific functions of pivotal roles including Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, and Communications lead.

Throughout the session, participants will have the opportunity to develop practical board skills, with a focus on effective meeting management and robust decision-making processes. The training also addresses the importance of managing relationships between the board and senior management, recognising and avoiding common governance pitfalls, and navigating conflicts appropriately. With an emphasis on real-world scenarios and current best practice, this course provides board members—whether newly appointed or seeking to update their knowledge—with the tools to contribute confidently and constructively to their organisations, ensuring good governance remains at the heart of their mission.

Caroline Egan M.B.S., B.B.S., Advanced Diploma in Applied Employment Law (Kings Inns)

Caroline is founder and Managing Director of CramdenTECH Ltd. She is a highly experienced business and training professional with a career spanning over three decades in both senior and middle management roles within third-level institutions in Ireland and Finland, as well as the non-profit sector. Currently serving as Managing Director of a leading capacity building, e-learning, and training consultancy, she brings twenty years’ lecturing and training expertise in business and industry topics, and seventeen years specialising in social enterprise development, strategic and business planning, corporate governance, fundraising, and communications for non-profits in Ireland. Caroline’s extensive background also includes international marketing management, instructional design, and hands-on experience supporting staff and directors across numerous organisations.

Target Audience:

This workshop is especially valuable for new employees or non-profit volunteers who will be handling personal data on behalf of their organisation. It is equally beneficial for managers and supervisors overseeing the onboarding process for new staff or volunteers.

Serving as both an introduction and a refresher, this course is an excellent resource to support a deeper understanding of the importance of data protection in day-to-day operations. Workshop content is also designed to reinforce the importance of adhering to established data protection procedures and protocols.

Current staff and volunteers will also find it a useful way to stay up to date with best practices in data protection.
