Managing direct reports and teams is an obvious part of the work of a supervisory manager. But so too is the ability to manage working relationships with departmental managers, middle managers and senior managers. The person to whom a supervisor reports must be able to trust the supervisor. The nature of the reporting relationship between supervisor and departmental/senior manager plays an important part in establishing and maintaining that trust. So too does the way in which performance appraisals are conducted and the way in which performance feedback is provided by senior management to supervisory managers. We explore these points further in this lesson.
