The latest research carried out by employers’ group Ibec, has found that over 70% of companies in Ireland expect to increase pay for employees in 2016.
The survey also found that a significant number of companies, particularly smaller ones, cannot afford to increase pay next year.
The September survey of 340 companies, the average pay rise in 2016 will be 2% in companies which can afford pay rises.
85% of larger companies, particularly in the hi-tech sector, anticipate conceding wage increases.
58% of small and medium enterprises employing fewer than 50 employees will raise basic pay as many are still struggling.
